I installed Drupal and I am using a different program that allows me to create a genealogy website. Since its using the same database as Drupal just created new tables, am I able to retrieve the data onto Drupal nodes. I would like to have Drupal as my main page with some data that I have entered into the genealogy program.

You can use the http://drupal.org/project/tw or http://drupal.org/project/data modules to expose that data to views.
