Not working with Zen

Somehow Better Messages is not working with the Zen module. When I switch to a standard theme, everything is fine. But with Zen no message appears whatsoever. Should I add something somewhere manually, or is this a bug? The $closure variable is printed.
I tried adding the .tpl to the sub themes, but that doesn't solve the problem.
