Thanks for this great module. Even though Im still stuck on Drupal 5 and have to jump through plenty of hoops I've still managed to achieve some excellent functionality using the flags module.

One thing I would like to see in the future is the ability for users to opt-out from appearing in listings of 'who flagged this' views. In my situation I have managed to provide lists to users of all other users who have flagged their (node based) profiles. They even get an exciting email informing them each time this happens. This is great for encouraging user participation / interactions, etc - but some people are always going to want to keep their selections private.

If there was a simple mechanism (a check box on their profile) for a user to keep their flag preferences from ever showing up that would be really useful.

An admin can implement this feature easily enough, but not in D5:

  • Add a "Hide my bookmarks" flag that users can set on themselves. Then modify the default "Who's bookmarked this" view to show only users that aren't flagged.
  • As for not sending email notifications when such users bookmark something: the Rules module supports "conditions", so it's easy to email if and only if the flagging user isn't of the "Hide my bookmarks" type.

So, you see, the power of a simple module like Flag is that you can combine several simple building blocks to create something more complicated. Adding to Flag the feature you suggest is anathema to this principle.

As for D5: You'll have to write custom code. Since we can do nothing about this it seems all that's left is to mark this issue "works as designed".

That's great - good to know the option exists for the eventual 6.x upgrade - by the time I am able to upgrade to 6.x everyone else will be on 7.x :)

My most pressing issue right now is how to get "repeat" actions after threshold is reached. I need authors to be mailed each time someone flags their page. I thought it was working - but then realised the threshold meant it was a 'one off' mailout. I saw the issue covered here: http://drupal.org/node/568108 but didn't feel I should open a 6.x 'fixed' issue.

Is there any possible hack to just get emails repeatable?

Thanks

I answered in that other thread.

but then realised the threshold meant it was a 'one off' mailout.

(I'm surprised our Actions were so dumb before. They still are. The saner approach is to use Rules (D6 and up).)

(Re-open this issue if you have more questions.)
