Redirects shown below are not working, getting the 403 Permission Denied screen:

events/calendar

However, URL entries are working fine:
events/calendar/index.asp

Any suggestions?

Please, clarify:
1. What was your From url.
2. What was your To url.

This isn't working:
1. The From path is /events/calendar/
2. The To url is one of the internal site's path.

While below works fine:
1. /events/calendar/index.asp
2. The To url is one of the internal site's path.

In both examples above, none of the From url exists on the Drupal site; they are legacy paths and url from older site's non-drupal traffics.

The error I get is:
403 Permission Denied
You do not have permission for this request /events/calendar/

It would be helpful to know about your server configuration a little more , e.g. IIS or Apache etc. etc.
Looking into your .htaccess if you have that #Options FollowSymLinks SymLinksIfOwnerMatch could maybe of help

I'm having same problem, and it's very weird because it works for other instances.

This works (the site is www.folkmusic.com):

untold/lyrics >> untold/lyrics.html

but this new one won't!!

thisland/lyrics >> thisland/lyrics/index.html
