This module seems very similar to the Front Page module (http://drupal.org/project/front).

Is it different? If so, how?

If it is similar, can development be combined on the existing module?
If it is different, could you post on the project description a link to the existing module with a line or two about the differences?

The modules are different, as reported from the project pages. The project page now reports more details about the differences between this project, and similar ones.
