A while ago I started putting together a site to help me find themes for my web projects. I thought this might be useful to other people building websites and decided to make this an all-in-one site for finding themes and templates. Themebot takes the hassle out of finding the right theme for your next project using a content management system, blog, or forum software. Some of the highlights:

  • Compare themes/templates/skins/styles from various popular open source software packages
  • Extensive collection of free themes with direct download
  • Gallery view with thumbnails
  • High quality screenshots that show what the entire template will look like on a 1024x768 screen
  • Slideshow with selectable picture size and transition speed
  • Live demo for every theme in the gallery
  • Rating system and comments - popular themes float to the top of each album
  • Add and upload your own theme
  • Subscribe to specific albums and receive notification whenever a new file is added

New themes and templates are being added every day. Check it out and let me know if it is bookmark worthy: http://themebot.com

If you have any suggestions or feedback, I'm all ears.

I think I was a little too hasty in releasing this site. I realized that I needed a good file repository module and couldn't find anything that had all the functionality in Drupal. I checked out disknode and some of the other modules. What I needed was a way to have a thumbnail image for each download, number of downloads recorded, have the files sortable by title, submission date, and number of downloads, definable directories to contain uploads, and have a tidy profile for each theme so that several themes could be viewed at once on a page. I ended up rebuilding the site in Joomla using the remository component. I tried to figure out a way I could accomplish something similar using a combination of views, disknode and flexinode, but it doesn't seem to be a simple task. It would be nice to see a module similar to remository built for Drupal.

Good idea I have a few (hopefully considered helpful) comments...

While Gallery2 is a nice gallery I find it rather slow and I'd suggest you use Drupal's image module and create a single node with the attached screenshot and additional information about the theme.

It's faster, looks smoother and overall I think it would do alot for your page to drop as many 3rd party tools as possible and focus on Drupal.

Don't get me wrong. I love the fact that we now have more themes to choose from and I was really waiting for something better than Drupal's Theme Garden... but so far I'm still waiting.

Thanks for the input. I am open to any feedback and suggestions for improvement. Has anyone else experienced problems or slow page-loads using Gallery2? I chose to use Gallery2 because it has some really nice features that are necessary for the site. Right now it is running very fast for me and there are a bunch of pictures loaded in the gallery. ThemeBot hasn't had any major traffic yet, so I'll have to wait and see how Gallery2 performs under a heavier server load.

There was a problem with the linking to downloads in the Gallery section for Drupal. Fixed that and also added a couple of new themes.

People can also upload their own themes. It is a free pagerank boost and link back to homepage. I'm not sure if there are any themes for Drupal floating around out there that aren't included in the Drupal.org themes section. Anyways, I'll try to keep ThemeBot up to date whenever a new theme is added here.

Site was down over the weekend due to a hard drive failure with my hosting company. Everything seems to be back in order and functioning properly. Please let me know if you encounter any broken links.

I've added SMF (SimpleMachines) to the forum section on ThemeBot. Are there any plans to create a bridge for SMF, like the one for phpBB?

I've added a message board: http://themebot.com/forums

Also, there is the ability to directly link to themes in the live demo for both Drupal 4.7 and 5.0. To add a link, just copy one of the URLs below and insert your theme's directory name in place of "example"

Drupal 4.7: http://drupal-47x.themebot.com/&theme=example

Drupal 5.0: http://drupal-50x.themebot.com/&theme=example

The fact that a theme needs a different template engine needs to be announced BEFORE the download, not after. And even when it is shown, it is not terribly noticeable.

All of the entries in the Drupal gallery section now have a direct link to the live demo for each theme. Also, the download link has been changed so it takes you to the detailed file description before the download starts.

All of the new themes have been added to the Drupal Themes Section for Drupal 5. Also, all of the advertising has been removed from the live demos. The advertising on the rest of the live demos will be removed as well.

All existing 5.x themes have been moved to the new Drupal Theme Browser. The new browser is a huge upgrade. There is detailed information about each theme, search results can be filtered by a number of different parameters making it easy to find exactly what you are looking for, and all themes have a live demo. If you have created a theme, you are welcome to add it to the theme browser.

I'd like to see something that lets me know which ones use the Theme Settings API.

Beyond that, I'd love to know the average amount of time issues stay open on a theme.

Just in time for the new year, Themebot has been updated with a fresh new layout. This is a beta launch and any feedback, both positive and negative is welcome. 2008 will bring many new updates. Happy Holidays!

I love the theme - too bad it's joomla.

The snapshots in the Drupal gallery are awfully small - and I have a 19" screen. And I recently started playing with the Denver theme, but you don't have it.

Oh, and how about sorting by name.
