CCK, Views, and Organic Groups each have a number of contributed modules that provide enhanced functionality on top of these modules. Right now, the only way to find a list of all modules that add additional field types to CCK, for example, is to view the entire list of modules by name and then Ctrl+F for "CCK" or "Field." Most Organic Group modules are prefixed with "OG" but it's still cumbersome to scroll through the huge list to find them.

It would be great if we could categorize these modules together, especially since now the default is to display modules by category. Then you just click the "CCK" link and instantly see a list of CCK, Date, Imagefield, Calcfield, etc.

in case anyone doesn't know this already, a given module can belong to more than 1 category. so, for example, og_project can live both in the OG category and in the Administration category (where it lives now).

i see no reason not to do this... unless someone vetos for some (unfathomable) reason, we should just do this tomorrow.

Piggy backing on this... Can we also add one for "User related"? There are a ton of User * modules that don't fit with "User Management" such as "User points" and "User review" as well as all the profile enhancement ones. Possibly even things like Buddylist could fit in this. Basically anything having to do with users rather than nodes that isn't an administrative feature like "management" implies.

Also, it's worth pointing out that there were lots of modules that said stuff like,

"This module does foo with bar. You can use Views to display a list of bars." (same with CCK)

I didn't bother adding those to the Views/CCK categories for now, as these categories should be more about utility modules for those "mother" modules, imo. But of course if someone wants to put their stuff there, I won't stop them. ;)
