When an anonymous visitor tries to submit their email address to confirm a subscription, they get the error message "This destination address is not valid.".

Same result here. Is this from it still being in development or is there a particular setting to consider for this (I've gone through it many times to make sure but to no avail).

Is it possible that the mail is already there or belongs to a registered user?

In my case, no - I discovered this while testing to see if the module worked /was installed properly on my site, and I used an email address that didn't belong to any registered user.
