Our site is using the module to allow anonymous users to post content.

We plan to send the user an email with a one time login link, as well as the user name and password for future use.

Inserting !password in the email shows !password (not the password itself).

I have read on the issue and it sounds like the best course is to create a custom password token, which I will try to figure out.

In the meantime I am curious about the purpose of !password and if there is any easy way to include a password in the one time log in email.

No, there is no way to do this. They would have to use the reset/forgot password form built into drupal.
