Is there a way to get the panels popup to honor the default input format for text areas. I've tried both filter deafults and better formats with no success. Maybe I'm missing something?

Assuming you mean the custom content type, they should honor the default filter. I can't imagine why they would not, they use the basic filter technique.

I don't know, but yes, the custom content textarea doesn't work with default filter or better formats. Using latest of all mods involved and Drupal 6, latest rev.
