Hi all!!

I just finished preparing my second drupal site which is a digg-like site in french, but with more advanced features than the original!!

http://www.notreactualite.com

It features content recommandation and also a personnal site aggregator (mysite) for each user! Also, thanks to the powerful taxonomy of drupal, people can even filter by general theme, tags AND regional tags, so they can build up a regional view of news.

Of course at the moment there are not a lot of news, but I wanted to show the site to the drupal community before launching it!!

So please give me some comments, advice, etc..

Thanks

patchak

I don't read/write French, but it looks like a really nice site. I have a couple of items that I found distracting that if fixed, would polish off the look:

  • Short pages (example: http://www.notreactualite.com/forums) have the footer intersecting your left-sidebar. This needs to be fixed in your CSS. If I recall correctly, that was a problem in the original Millio template itself. If you fix it, please post your fixes so Mollio can become more usable.
  • The bullet image you use for your unordered lists looks out of place with the rest of the theme. It doesn't carry enough weight and is pulled far to the left. It almost looks like it doesn't belong with the list item.

Otherwise, I think it looks great. Good luck!

Hi there,

Thanks for the comments!! You are right about the list bullet, I think we should just remove it actually...

As for the footer image crossing the left column, I also told that to my partner but he seemed to believe that no one would notice, well that proves him wrong lol ;)

Apart of those things, how do you like the structuring and presentation of content in general??

Do you think the site looks and feels like a profesionnal grade site that could eventually compete with the big players in this market??

If anyone have other advice/comments, fell free to let me know!

really nice site. im not fluent in french, but it looks good. the div that renders the points numbers is a little grainy in my browser. maybe i dont have the font. just fyi.

btw, is the digg-like pionts ranking system a feature of drupal, or did you custom build that?

patchak’s picture

hi there, thanks for the comments, appreciate it!!!

We'll look into the thing you said about the div that's grainy.. in which browser did you see that??

Also for yourquestion about the functionnality, it's based on the vote up down package, you can find it in the modules section of the site.

thanks again for the comments, I would really like tohave more comments about the site!

Peut etre il y a des francophones dans la salle??

Wish me luck!

I launch an invitation to anyone who would like to be part of a new drupal powered digg-like site in french.

I think the site is quite powerful thanks to drupal and it's wonderful modules, so if you speak french or are a native french speaker, come have a look and say hi!

thanks,

I used this google tool to translate

seems like your site is similar to a Pligg based site,

very nice

Thanks for the comment, glad you enjoy the site. Yes I was aware of Pligg, but I'm not sure it offers a taxonomy as strong as the drupal one.

Thanks again

Very nice looking. I guess you gave up on the category module then?

hey ramdak,

Well I did not give up, I'm using category for another project. I tried to use taxonomy because I wanted to get away from update problems and especially because I could make the tabs work with the views and taxonomy module...

I was trying today to build some rss feeds directory (with aggregator 2 and all) and I was thinking how simple it could have been with vategory module, it's a great module!

I really hope someday it will be added in core and supported fully by drupal!

Glad you liked the site, any advice ??

Thanks,

patchak

HI Toma,

For the view I simply added a value to each view with tabbed views. So one tab is now - 7 days, the other one is now -a month, etc. With the url's you can then show them as tabs. It's nice but I think it's a little slow...

That appart, I'm still quite new in website promotion in french, I wonder if you have some specific advices about the hot spots to get traffic in french...

A+

Hi Toma,

what does not work exactly?? the ordering by points for a specific time frame or the tabbed views themselves??

To have tabbed views, you must give the same url to all views, except for the last part of the URL

url 1) www,yada.com/somefolder/tab1 (default)
url 2) www.yada.com/somefolder/tab2
url 3) www.yada.com/somefolder/tab3

etc...

As for the help to get some traffic in french, I would really appreciate any advice you could give me on how to get noticed in the french world...

thanks!

toma’s picture

Hi

To get more traffic,
Step 1 read on

http://drupal.org/node/67767

Step 2

Define some keywords, or phrase to get in top 10 google, "journal social" "actualite" "notre actualite"

Step 3

Add your site to french search engine
Make some link exchange with french website
If you add your own "news" , Google news can give a lot of traffic, but you need original news,

A quick review for your site, make your login block to right side, make some content to the top left and top content of your page like the one "Un aperçu de notre site"

good luck

To get views tabbed together i need view fusion / nodefamily modules because i can't get it together in panels

see nouveautes with tabs

http://2.annoncemaroc.net/nouveautes

When i add the view "nouveautes" into the panels in bottom have no tabbed menu !!

Glad you liked the site, any advice ?

Not much. You seem to have done a great job both in terms of structure and design!

And, boy, it's a great relief to know you continue to think highly of the category module, especially because you spent so much time testing it out. Tell me, if category had provided complete integration with the views module, including views as tabs etc., would you have used it for this site?

patchak’s picture

hey ramdak,

I would certainly have used category if was not for the tabbed views. Actually I am thinking of moving the site to category module even though I know it can be a real pain... I was thinking to have a look at the jstools tabs module instead of the built in views tabs and then use category module instead, because of it's flexibility, and all that ;)

Thanks for your nice comments about the site, now if we could get some traffic ;P

Felicitations, un beau site clair et fonctionel. Une petite remarque, le lien vers la source de la news (via ...) serai peut etre mieu a la fin de la news.. maintenant il est un peu o milieu.

Et pour finir une question en anglais pke tt le monde en profite..

Can you give us more details on the modules you used to filter taxonomy. Par theme et par regions?

Merci

patchak’s picture

To filter by theme and by regions on the top of pages i simply use views... with exposed filters. As for the filtering blocks on the side of the taxonomy pages, I use refine by taxo module... Hope that helps

ps. merci pour les commentaires, hésite pas a participer au site!!

Le site est vraiment bien fait! Il est maintenant dans mes signets :)

This actually gives me some ideas for my website!

And thanks to have choose "blogue" to translate "blog", until there is a better word... ;)
