Paid affiliate hosting advertisement

The Drupal hosting forums have been deprecated. Unfortunately, several hosting companies and their affiliates have chosen to abuse the good will of the Drupal maintainers. The result is that recommendations about hosting companies are not accurate and in some cases even deceptive. We are currently evaluating other support options for hosting companies that will limit abuse.

DreamHost opinion

testhosts - November 19, 2006 - 15:03

Greetings,

I'm a client of DreamHost for some time, and it's an excellent webhost for that price. SQL can be slower than in some hosts, but remember that it runs like a cluster, load balancing several servers like if it was just one.
In my first year I only paid $23, so it was nice to evaluate it. I then renewed for the full price. They really deserve it.
If you want a $97 promo code to try DreamHost, you may use [strong]97promo[/strong]
It's mine, and I don't earn anything from your referral. Only if you earn money as an affiliate.
Full explanation is here: http://www.dreamhost97.com

Bye!

why are you framing dreamhost.com in your dreamhost97.com

orick - December 12, 2006 - 18:30

I looked at your site and clicked on the dreamhost logo to go and sign up. Then I noticed that it's not dreamhost.com I went to but your www.dreamhost97.com/dreamhost-97.htm page which is still on your website. Looking at the source, you are framing dreamhost.com in your page.

Why are you doing that? Why not just send people on their way to dreamhost.com? This could look like a potential phishing. Looks like you could, if you have the skills, interupt the data and get people's credit card number and name before the information is sent to dreamhost.com.

Care to clarify?

Clarification

Wow, I just found this reply today.
Frames are one of the oldest web practices. There is nothing wrong with it. I use them for almost 10 years now...
Phishers don't frame. They can just copy the pages, and host them in their server. That is a totally different subject.

Why use frames in this case?

Simple. Google Adwords doesn't like affiliate urls, especially long ones, so they prefer you advertise your own page, on your own url. I used to advertise that url, and that was the only way.
Oh, and that domain is no longer mine.

Best Regards,

Nuno
