- Quotation. To my mind, this is essential when using collapsed views, or else each post loses its context.

I'm guessing that this feature should allow for optional quoting? At the moment the quote module does a very good job of providing this functionality. I believe that this should be the starting point for any solution.

Moving to HEAD.
This issue dates back to 2004, and with only 4 comments it seems there isn't a lot of interest in having this feature in core, so we might set to "Closed (won't fix)"?

I am pretty sure that this is common for forums, but for other "comment cases" this is not a widely recognized feature.
