I'd like to position a sidebar differently when an (article) node contains an image. How would I go about it?

Couldn't you ask this one of the guys who knows the Drupal 7 render system inside out? I could find out, but I'd first have to familiarize myself with it, and I don't have time for that right now. It'd take them 1 minute probably.
