I'd like to create custom short URLs on my website. for example: www.example.com/blog/2010/12/01/have-a-merry-christmas would become exm.pl/xmas.

can do?

+1 also interested. Ability to reuse pathauto tokens (cropped further or with a special option in PA for short urls?) would be a nice option as part of this featureset as well.

The namespace has been taken over and the module has been replaced by a completely new and unrelated project for Drupal 10/11.

The original code remains available in the 6.x-1.x branch.
