If this does what I think it does... AWESOME!

Just wanted to provide a bit of motivation. In the meantime I'm of to find docs on how to do it in vanilla Omega. :)

Lets start thinking about the features...

  • Frontend (Drag & Drop with advanced settings in modals?!) editor for your layouts: No more clunky layout building on the theme-settings UI (sorry about that, this is not our fault. Core makes it impossible to theme [and thereby enhance] the theme settings form).
  • Creating new regions and zones ON THE FLY! This will allow you to just copy the subtheme of your choice, then build the regions and zones ON THE FRONTEND and let Omega UI automatically merge your changes back into the .info file. This is possible by hooking into the function that fetches the data from the .info file by reading its file contents. We can inject regions and zones during this process.
  • The same method will get applied to custom CSS files and everything else that normally has to be written into the .info files manually. We want to make your (theming) life as easy as possible and therefore try to get to a point where editing of the .info files won't be necesary anymore (at all!).
  • Build your own custom grids based on the 960.gs by Nathan Smith (http://www.spry-soft.com/grids) in a built-in generator that automaticaly creates the CSS files in a way that suites Omega and also generate the debugging PNG files and the .info Array aswell as all the folders (in the correct structure) and move them to your subtheme automatically.

This is just a short introduction about what we came up with the other day. Tonight I even had the Idea to make Omega UI depend on Omega Tools so that you could create Subthemes not only via Drush but also on the Interface! However, I didn't talk about that with Jake (yet).

------------------------------------------------------------

The following stuff really doesn't fit into this concept because it is completly useable in other Themes aswell. That's one thing that we still need to figure out. Maybe it would be cool to merge our changes into "Blockify" (for more flexibility and a better "Branding" solution).

What I already did (it's working already):

Create flexible blocks for all the core page elements. The blocks are similiar to those defined by the "Blockify" module but do have some additional functionality. Also we added the "Branding" block which is a good way of adding a branding to your site without having to combine multiple blocks. The blocks are (also something that Blockify doesn't do) configurable in different aspects. For example the Branding block allows you to "hide" (element-invisible) the Site name or Site slogan (or both) via CSS. The blocks included are:

  • Site name
  • Site slogan
  • Logo
  • Branding (a combination of the above 3)
  • Page title
  • Tabs
  • Action links
  • Messages
  • Feed icons
  • Breadcrumb

Okay... The blocks stuff just got commited to the "Delta" module. That's a good place for it to stay! :)

Eagerly anticipated, more than DotA 2 and Batman 3 together.

Very nice work on the Omega suite, once you get the hang of Context, Delta and Views. Thankyou.

Sorry... But nothing can be more anticipated then DotA 2... Not even Omega UI

When a man dedicates himself to an ideal, he becomes legend.
Batman 3 should be good too.
Both DotA 2 and Batman 3 the Dark Knight Rises co-exist in Omega UI space giving OUI a cumulative anticipation advantage over both.
We could add 2012 Olympics into the mix too but DotA and Batman 3 are sweeter than the Olympics.
