are there many experts in the smtp field? I know my smtp authentication settings are correct as I have tried this in outlook express to confirm and can only assume its to do with PHP or drupal configs :-/

hi.. i am facing the same problem with relaying mails via the SMTP module.
were you able to rectify the error??
expecting some help in this regard...
thnx in advance..
I'm having exactly the same problem
I get these errors:
After reading some posts on the internet, I found some clues. It seems that it is a php bug in versions lower than 4.3 I guess.
My host has php 4.1 so I'm qualified for this bug...
check phpinfo() and see the version of your php
I don't know the solution...
:)
fsock() blah blah blah
I experienced this problem after restarting Apache a couple of dozen times trying to figure out how to get clean URLs on a LAMP box. All this restarting was done via Webmin and through an SSH connection using PuTTy Portable. I use a KVM so I switched to my OS X box running Drupal and tried the SMTP module there and it worked fine. So the email server was working fine. All this time I'd been using my WinXP box to configure the site via Webmin and SSH. After switching the KVM back to the LAMP box there were about a dozen instances of Apache restarting and there was no command prompt.
I don't know if that signifies a memory leak or otherwise buggy software, but after I restarted the LAMP box the SMTP stuff worked fine. I guess what I'm trying to say is to check running jobs and see if jobs are running wild in the background.
Not much help, but maybe it'll lead somewhere that is.
