When Document Cloud is enabled, in status report it shows the following error:
"Required Library "DocumentViewer" is not installed. Download the library from github, unzip it and place (all) the contents in sites/all/libraries/documentViewer/."

The link to github (http://github.com/documentcloud/document-viewer/zipball/frontend) doesn't work, and there doesn't seem to be another link.

There doesn't seem to be a link to the zipball on git at all anymore (looking at http://github.com/documentcloud/document-viewer/).

Pretty major issue, because without it this module can't be configured. I *think* the nice people over at Document Cloud have changed the service so you have to ASK to use it, so some updated documentation would be necessary to get this running.

bigkevracer,

I haven't been involved in Publish2's work on the drupal module but ...

Doc Viewer is free software. It was originally developed at the NY Times so the github link to DocumentCloud never woulda worked. Try: https://github.com/NYTimes/document-viewer

DocumentCloud has required manual account approval since we launched our beta in March '10. You can find more information on our criteria at DocumentCloud's contact page. I haven't really dug under the hood of Phase2's module, but my guess is that, especially at this stage, it isn't going to be much use unless you have an account with DocumentCloud.

Thanks Amanda,

You are completely correct. We will update the documentation for the library.

The URL in 6.x-1.9 is also incorrect/broken. I believe the proper link is https://github.com/documentcloud/document-viewer.

Changing the status because this does, indeed, break sites. Please revise the module's page to show that it's a dead end — that site developers should not even think about installing this module until they've done a lot of research into how this service is intended to work. You might start with these portions of DocumentCloud's documentation:

  • their Contact page, where they explain quite clearly who they intend to use DocumentCloud and the two-week process for getting your account with them, a necessary precursor to getting all the libraries and other items you'll need if DocumentCloud is to work with your site
  • their terms and conditions for contributors (Anyone who contributes articles to your could be covered by these terms and conditions, which include that they shall not contribute copyrighted material — without regard as to whether they themselves own the copyright)
  • the privacy policy, which also affects contributors to your site

Please don't take these comments to be anything against DocumentCloud. It's a much-needed service. But they don't want it connected to every blog or ezine out there, because it just isn't meant for that broad a market. And had I been able to learn this when I first came to the page of the Document Cloud module, I'd have gotten to bed hours ago.

The link is simply wrong - The proper download link is provided above?

While I agree that the module is intended for a specific audience, I think 'dead end' is a bit drastic.

It is fixed in this commit: http://drupal.org/commitlog/commit/15872/8a32f4d2aecb4168a09db2742b6e3f2...
