Is support for UberCart Marketplace (http://drupal.org/project/ubercart_marketplace) or something similar planned for Drupal Commerce?

I am currently running UberCart Marketplace 6x, and would like to know if it will be incorporated, supported, or recreated in Drupal 7.

There's talk to get the beginnings of that in #990204: The path to Marketplace functionality.
It can be a contrib module (and parts of the functionality will probably have to be in contrib), but I don't know who will write it (whoever in the community gets the need to first ;) )
It's generally too early to predict anything.

I have a developer that is having trouble finding a work around for Ubercart Marketplace developing a Commerce site that uses a LARGE locally cached XML Database with API feed for updates. Why is Marketplace essential for this? What are the benefits to using Marketplace in this situation? I am not a developer and need help finding a solution.
