Leveraging off the Drupal's taxonomies, views, and panels, we've built a next-generation platform for publishing Austin's newest alternative weekly.

http://thatotherpaper.com/

We extended Drupal with a custom theme (ThatOtherPaper), a custom advertising module (PressFlow Sellout), a custom navigation and suggestion module (PressFlow Focus), and a templating and linking module (PressFlow Templates) that implements much of the MediaWiki syntax as a a Drupal input filter.

Keep an eye on our site as we add more features and release things back into open source! The content on our site is licensed Creative Commons.

Very well done!!!

That may be the best alt-weekly style site I've seen in Drupal. Very much in the same league as these sites built on the Ellington CMS.

I've been working on something very similar for my neck of the woods (Los Angeles). Specific content aside, I'm hoping my efforts, in collaboration with other like minded folks, can lead to the creation of a multimedia rich, newspaper/magazine style installation profile.

Great site! I'm bookmarking this site for my personal enjoyment as I make it to Austin about twice a month.

I Love it!

I noticed you didn't have any RSS feeds?

What modules did you guys use to make this baby work?

Does this page use some type of custom module:?

What was your solution for managing the images for pages like this as well as their "post preview images"?

Your answers will be very appreciated. Thanks

We'll offer them shortly :)

Besides implementing heavily modified versions of Panels and Views, we custom-built the majority of the functionality you see. We call our collection of publishing modules "PressFlow"; we plan to publicly release some or all of it in the future.

Yes! It's a custom-built tag browsing system. Our entire site is organized using tags; with a few improvements, a version of that navigation system will appear on each page, allowing users to browse related pages.

The images were simply attached to the post. What makes them behave the way they do is CSS and an "includes" based on wiki templates: {{imgright|image.jpg|size|caption}}.

All of this stuff will be included in our PressFlow publishing package.

I enjoyed taking a look at your paper - it's refreshing and innovative!

By the way, feel free to join the Austin Drupal Group. I live in Austin and I'd like to get an Austin meet-up set up for sometime in spring 2007. Are you interested?

when will PressFlow become available, and what will be the cost of it? What features will it offer?
I am trying to develop a newspaper (weekly) for our local publication.
