check box radio button not showing after content type created

Using 4.7.4

After creating a new field Text >> Check boxes/radio buttons with Widget: Check boxes/radio buttons
Display in Group: No Group
weight: 0
Data Setting: Not Required Not Multiple
Text Processor: Plain Text
>>> save field . . .
When I create content the field is there but not the radio button or check box.
If I change it to a Widget: Text it shows up.
If I change it to a select field and enter values it showes up.
