This module currently only seems to support referenced Content types, but not Nodes that are referenced via a View (Advanced mode).

Even if using a View, a content type must be selected.

I just ran across this myself.

Actually, you don't 'have' to select a content type when using a view (the field will save without it). The easy solution is though, just select the content types anyway-- the view will still be used and nodereference_count will then detect the fields and make them available.
