promote Drupal Dev Days to front page

in general only Drupalcons are promoted to the front page. I don't know when the last time was that a non-Drupalcon event was on the front page, but it was at least 1.5 years ago and probably more like 2 or 3.

If you create an event node for it on g.d.o we can promote that to the front of g.d.o, but I'm not sure that it is appropriate for the front page of d.o.

I'm not really sure wether http://drupal.org/node/908744 was listed front page, but why don't promote a Drupal Event which is having 8 week before start nearly 150 attendees from 20 countries and will expect (my personal calculation) 300-400 attendees or more?

Just chiming in to give my +1 for promoting the event to the front page.

• IMO, the event transcends the "local" classification from Update front page policy on regional events and posting frequency
• It's a great Q1 alternative event this side of the ocean for those that are unable to make it to DrupalCon Chicago
• A couple of weeks into registration, there are already close to 200 registered attendees, with people coming from all over Europe and even further, like Morocco, Tunisia and Canada.
• The front-page promotion schedule is relatively empty at the moment, so there's no risk of too many posts competing for attention (actually, more the opposite ;) )

The g.d.o event is now promoted to the homepage. The process is listed on the about page linked from the footer of the site.

As to the reason why: similar events of similar size with similar international draw happen about 10 times a year around the world and events that aspire to those levels happen probably 30 or 40 times a year. Some people say the homepage should be busy and full of events, others feel that the 30 or 40 events would be too much news.

I don't have a strong feeling here, just sharing what has happened historically with similar requests.

I would love to see a clarification on issues like this. I'm already on record several times saying we should have a much more active "front page".

Of course, now that we have what is 90% static front page, maybe the distinction is rather silly. Who sees the "front page" anymore?

Anyway, to the regional/non-regional argument, Devil's advocate speaks: if, by chance, the Drupal Dev Days were in Dallas, TX and as a result most of the attendees were Americans, would it still qualify as non-regional? Does an event have to be in a small country with many other countries in easy train/car distance to make a smallish event "international"?

I think it's great to promote all kinds of Drupal activities, especially code sprints and other activities that specifically and rather directly benefit the community at large.

However, if we promote this Brussels Drupal conference, we should open up the front page to promote other Drupal conferences, such as Drupal Design LA, SW Drupal Summit, and other camps that will have as much or more Drupal going on. Personally this may not be a bad idea, because this really adds only a few dozen posts a year to the "front page" of d.o., and helps show worldwide community activity. But let's not try to pretend that Drupal Dev Days in Brussels is markedly different from other Drupal conferences, camps and summits.

To sum up: I give this a +1 for this post only if we also give a +1 for promoting announcements of any Drupal-centric events of 300 [arbitrary number] people or more who put together announcements for the front page.

Well, I think the redesign concept was that events from g.d.o would provide a feed, and since we already probably know where you are (via your profile location field), we can tell you about the Drupal events near you (via a dashboard block?). The event and job designs from the redesign actually included filtering by default for events in your region, so you can get targeted news about those instead of pushing them to everybody.
