CheapID
CheapID is a privacy-friendly digital identity standard designed for use in conflicted environments like those many refugees or disaster victims may find themselves in. The CheapID system combines three core technologies:
- Public key cryptography: Secures each CheapID identity card against forgery and improper use.
- 2D matrix barcodes: Carries the digital identity data in a form that can be printed on a desktop printer, and read using a computer or camera phone.
- Biometric identification: Securely identifies a person even when all other evidence of their identity is lost in the chaos of a war or a natural disaster.
For more information on the CheapID concept, please refer to The Gupta Option, specifically the SIAB Identity Services Architecture white paper prepared for the US Department of Defense which contains in-depth discussion of both the policy and technical aspects of the system.
Please note that this module is in an early development stage and is not yet useful for end-users.
This module requires PHP 5.2 or newer, and is dependent on recent versions of the RDF API, GnuPG API, Data Matrix API and Bitcache modules.
This project is being developed by Arto Bendiken and Vinay Gupta for use in The Hexayurt Project.
