Installation profiles

Installation profiles are a feature in Drupal core that was added in the 5.x series. The Drupal installer allows you to specify an installation profile which defines which modules should be enabled, and can customize the new installation after they have been installed. This will allow customized "distributions" that enable and configure a set of modules that work together for a specific kind of site (Drupal for bloggers, Drupal for musicians, Drupal for developers, and so on).

Localized Drupal install profile

Due to how the current CVS structure is set up, it is not possible to submit the .po files needed for this profile. Opened #644564: .po files cannot be committed to Drupal install profiles which then morphed into #644916: Add drush make command for pulling core installer translations from l.d.o to solve this problem and make this profile work.

(So far a proof of concept) install profile for installing Drupal with user interface translations pulled programmatically from localize.drupal.org. There are many outstanding issues including the need for a sizable PHP timeout for this to work for now.

Look at http://drupal.org/project/issues/search?issue_tags=ldodomination for the outstanding issues around this workflow, completing which should lead us to an ideal world. There is work to do.

Drupal for Churches

Pisgah Baptist Church, a typical Protestant church in rural America

This project is in early planning stages. Any help with planning would be greatly appreciated. I'm also open to co-maintainers.

The goal of this project is to create an "Out-of-the-Box" Drupal distro designed for church websites. In completing this goal, we will also create a number of Feature bundles which you can use to add features to pre-existing church websites.

Open Media

Open Media Project Logo

The primary goal of the Open Media Install Profile is to leverage Drupal to give local communities more control over their public access channel. The system is built on several existing modules and custom modules developed to meet the workflow needs of a public access station.

The Open Media Install Profile is also committed to developing modules that are flexible enough for a variety of uses beyond public access channels.

This profile will include the following features and functionality,

Online Video (Show)
Make content availabble online 24/7. The process for submitting video content to station for broadcast is integrated into an online video submission process. As producers submit video content, they provide the metadata through an easy-to-use webform. This metadata makes video content searchable on the Internet. Once submitted, the Open Media Project tools automatically create broadcast and web-quality video formats.

Community-Based Scheduling (OM Broadcast Sync, OM Timeslot Scheduler)

North Drop - Sample database for Drupal learning and profiling

The end goal here is to build a standard "sample" database for Drupal.

I don't know if you ever had the pleasure of working in M$ Access, but there was a DB it came with called "Northwind"

It was a fictitious company, contained tables for Products, Orders, Customers, etc. It had some forms and some reports. It was a very valuable tool for learning to use the system, and for documentation.

If we had something similar for Drupal, it could be used for the following:

  • Benchmarking performance because
A man with a watch knows what time it is. A man with two watches is never sure.
    - Segal's Law
  • End user docs
  • Standards in content for Theming
  • Ease of development

I want to use "real" content for this - not greeking, it should come together and be a real looking site for a newspaper, business, or something.

However. I don't have budgeted time for that right now :(

We do have devel generate, and to start with, I am building an install profile, which, given some parameters will generate some content on the new site. Because we have cli installs, this can also be scripted now.

Please, suggest a better name.
