STICKY: Before you start - README

Greetings and welcome to the Before you start forum.

Drupal is a flexible and powerful Content Management System / Content Management Framework that allows a number of people of varying levels to build websites. That said, there is a learning curve. How steep depends on your starting skills and your end goal. Despite the learning curve, Drupal is not rocket science and with a reasonable amount of work most anyone can learn to use and build sites.

As Drupal is a CMS with a built in forum system our community contributed documentation resides in the handbooks which is built with the Book module. These can be reached through the Documentation tab at the top of the page.

The Drupal community has never been overly concerned with marketing, as a result the install base is largely invisible unless you know what to look for. For a sampling of Drupal sites check out these links.

Drupal Commerce vs Ubercart

Search and Report Business Process or Workflow

We have a case at hand where Students are to upload their semester results. The results are then evaluated by an Admin. After confirming with the students school, the process ends Else the process returns to the student to ensure he/she entered the correct details. If the student has no response to the admins query, he/she ends the process.

However, at the end of a semester would the Admin be able to search through these processes to retrieve (1) list of Confirmed results (2) list of results declined by school (3) list of students who did not upload results at all. List one can then be printed for onward payment action by a Scholarship board while list (2) and (3) are contacted to explain why they have no confirmed results or why they did not upload any result.

What module and approach would you advice. We are already considering maestro but are unsure it can paragraph two above?

drupal delay

I've tried both Joomla and WordPress and they seem much faster then Drupal.
When I access my Drupal site installed on localhost I have a big delay.
The delay is also present when browsing through pages without been logged on and editing.

I've seen Drupal sites online that moves much faster. I'm doing something wrong ? Can something be done to improve it's performances ?
