Started drupal with creating some small NGO sites. Then I migrated a community site from XOOPS into a Drupal 5 site. A number of sites are better performing, some because of server tuning, others by modifying modules to use the drupal cache better. I installed SOLR servers and configured the SOLR Integration module.
The LAMP stack and Linux servers don't have many secrets for me.
