- Bio
Alick is MD of miggle.co.uk, a Brighton based web agency established in 2007 to provide online consultancy, content management, media and development services to businesses. He also heads up technology at culturebank, a leading supplier of social recruitment solutions, most recently for Fitness First, which was deployed globally. At Yahoo!, between 1999-2006, as Head of Network Products and Services for Europe, with a year on the UK board, Alick led the regional product team in the deployment of personalization, registration and billing products – with business wide responsibility for country homepages.
Believing that websites are built for people, not search-engine spiders, Alick sees the web at its strongest when it leverages the power of communities. As such, he has advised many organizations on social media strategy. In 2009, he planned the development of a site deployed by BBC, which aims to gain consensus around the evolution of next generation set top boxes. In the same year, he also led the product requirements definition of Collections Link. A major initiative for the cultural sector, this site was charged with creating an experience whereby management of best practice in our country’s museums, libraries and archives became owned by the community, rather than shaped by the advisory body. Finally he scoped a social media photo-sharing platform for DHL, which was used internally as part of their birthday celebrations.
Alick also advises several businesses on site-monetisation strategies, for example deploying an open-source solution behind ArtReview’s online social media presence to manage client advertising. He also managed the creation of Yahoo!’s entries into the Valencia Festival of Media 2009, helping them to win the Media Innovation of the Year award.
Miggle’s success has largely been driven by the fact that it understands web audiences. Everyday, millions of UK Internet users engage with content that has been created by them, through contracts where the team has managed key properties for Yahoo!, ITV, Sky and AOL.
The business has also published its content management system, which powers the websites of over 20 businesses, as an open-source project.
