- Bio
I was born in San Diego, California in 1978 and lived in San Diego County until I was 14 before moving to northern California. I received a Bachelors degree in Computer Science from California State University, Chico. While I was attending college I met Laurie and continued to take classes until she received her degree. At that time, rather than continuing to pursue my Masters degree, I decided it was time to start working. Laurie and I moved to Port Hueneme, California in Ventura County where I worked as a civilian employee for the U.S. Navy as a "Computer Scientist" (my work mostly involved writing software and supporting various test and training events). In April 2005 I left government, moved to Virginia, and went to work as a contractor with Cubic Applications, Inc. (CAI). After moving to Virginia, Laurie and I got married and bought a house. I worked for CAI through September 2007 and then switched companies to work for BAE Systems (who I currently work for). I've had a rewarding and interesting career supporting defense projects since 2002. I don't know exactly why or how I ended up in this line of work, but I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity. In 2009 we moved to Fort Collins, Colorado (and bought a house in Fort Collins in 2010). I work from home, travel a lot for work, I'm working on a Masters degree again (at Colorado State University), and try to get outside and enjoy Colorado every chance I get.
As far as website development goes; I started building my own CMS websites (e-commerce and government related) before projects like Drupal were widespread and stable. I've since sipped the koolaid and wouldn't think to build a new website from scratch. I've used MANY website CMS frameworks and I've been most impressed with Drupal and Wordpress for "general purpose" informational and community-oriented websites (each having their strengths and weaknesses depending on what you are trying to accomplish). My biggest community-oriented Drupal website that I've put on the net is Funstead.org (http://www.funstead.org); although I've done several smaller and more "brochure-style" websites with Drupal.
