I learned about Drupal 6 from a Greek bike community website that used it. I learned to write Drupal Modules, because I wanted to write a Bike To Work sub-site, on that website, similar to Seattle's Cascade Bicycle Club's Bike Commute Challenge, that I had experienced while working in Seattle.

PHP

I use PHP mainly because of Drupal. Once I learned to write Drupal Modules, I wrote several personal modules. I wrote PHP only in the form of Drupal Modules, because then they were modular, and I could fit them in an existing PHP Application Framework (Drupal) which gave me a whole bunch of application services for free, such as user login and authentication, Configurable User Interface, Custom Fields, Comments, etc.
