GD Library not working within php / drupal ?!?

Hi,

Grumble grumble. I'm getting grazy here. I'm already googling and trying to install the gd kit for a few houres and it is still not working.

In the end I want to display the piclens slideshow module in drupal. Therefore module image is needed and the gd kit should be installed and configured.

I did the following things:
* Restarted the webserver after every changes

* Settings in my php.ini
--with-gd="d:\php\ext"
--with-jpeg-dir="d:\php\ext"
extension=php_gd2.dll

In this directory the file php_gd2.dll is available.

* A image gallery homepage was setup
* Images were added to this homepage and found in the Adminster > Content Management > Image Import
* Images are added to the homepage gallery
* The slideshow piclens is working ok. No images displayed of course.

Errors on here are:

Unable to create scaled Thumbnail image

As this was not working I downloaded and installed ImageMagick. But this is also not working !
If i check the menu entry Image Toolkit I'm able to select Image Magick but every time I get back there the gd kit is set to default.

Also when only add a image to the content of a page I get the error:

* Unable to create scaled Thumbnail image
* The selected file L:\drupal could not be copied.

So what can I check more. I getting frustrated after such a long time.

Things which are open for me:
* Do I have to download GD and if so which version and where to install it?
