This has been in the works for a while, but now it’s official: http://openacademic.org
This is an open source project designed to integrate Elgg, Drupal, Moodle, and Mediawiki. All code that fuels the integration will be released back to the community.
The project is a collaborative venture between the Elgg team and FunnyMonkey.
In the next few weeks, we’ll be building out the infrastructure to support the project, including a development site to centralize the integration discussions and coding, as well as a svn repository for the codebase.
So, come on over and check out the site! And, if this integration is something that interests you, feel free to get in touch.
Cheers,
Bill

When?
When will there be a first release? AFAIK it is open-source - is there a place where we can get in touch with the source? Your project is very interesting :)
based on what I have read I
based on what I have read I do not think that this is an integration. I think it emulates moodle, elg etc on drupal. Look at

I've been working on an update about
I've been working on an update about what actually constitutes "OpenAcademic" --
We are working on creating precise points of connection between different open source applications. Our goal is not to replicate Mediawiki or Moodle in Drupal, but rather to use the strengths of each app in a complementary way, and then create common points of connection.
DrupalEd is one part of what we are building, but there will be more to come. The work with the FeedAPI, and the improved support for OpenID within Drupal, both create additional options that we will be incorporating in the future.
Over the next few weeks, I'll be pulling together some notes about where things stand now, and where we're looking to go. I'll post here when I get this together.
Cheers,
Bill
