My recommendation is to include a bullet point in the initial bullet list:

All attendees, speakers, trainers, sponsors, volunteers and any other participants at {{ camp name }} are required to abide by the {{ camp name }} Code of Conduct (CoC) at the event as well as, but not necessarily limited to:

  • In-person and digital event spaces.
  • Social events hosted or sponsored by {{ camp name }} sponsors.
  • Event organizer meetings and communications.
  • Session proposal processes.
  • Post-event surveys.

Should we also qualify some of the other parts of the template for in-person events? I'm thinking of sections similar to:

Finally, no weapons of any kind or illegal drugs are permitted at {{ camp name }} venues.

Maybe modify to:

For in-person events, no weapons of any kind or illegal drugs are permitted at {{ camp name }} venues.

The changes thus far have been made to the CoC template. Any other suggestions?

Notes from CWG call:

Check DrupalCon CoC for laws in relation to location.

For both in-person and virtual events, add language that specifically calls out trained CoC contacts. See DrupalCamp NJ CoC.

Moving to needs work as per CWG team discussion.

I looked at the DrupalCon code of conduct but not see any language around illegal drugs based on locality.

‘ No weapons of any kind or illegal drugs are permitted at DrupalCon venues.’ - The legality or otherwise of a drug is determined by the location of the DrupalCon event

rachel_norfolk’s picture

(However, just to be clear, the no weapons of any kind phrase is not tied to legality - they are not permitted regardless of location)

@rachel_norfolk, so there is no language in the DCoC that specifically says "determined by the location of the DrupalCon event". It's odd because in other parts of the DCoC, the phrase "laws in which the conference or program is being held" (or similar) is used in several other places.

So, @weekbeforenext - I think our best path forward is to add a phrase like this to the Drupal event CoC template. Thoughts?

We have this line "For in-person events, no weapons of any kind or illegal drugs are permitted at {{ camp name }} venues."

As far as laws applied based on event location, we have several statements that mention this in regards to anti-discrimination laws. These statements match those in the DrupalCon CoC.

@ultimike: What phrase do you thinking we need to add?

ultimike’s picture

I say we break it up into two statements:

  1. For in-person events, no weapons of any kind are permitted at the {{ camp name }} venues.
  2. For in-person event, no illegal drugs (based on the location of the event) are permitted at the {{ camp name }} venues.

This makes things crystal clear, IMHO.

Just wanted to weigh in a bit on situations where an atendee has a current/outstanding issue with the CWG.
Can there be a line added, somewhat to the affect:

Attendees will be held accountable to any existing CWG agreements (at both in-person and virtual events)

weekbeforenext’s picture

I changed:

For in-person events, no weapons of any kind or illegal drugs are permitted at {{ camp name }} venues.

to

For in-person events:

  • No weapons of any kind are permitted at {{ camp name }} venues.
  • No illegal drugs (based on the location of the event) are permitted at {{ camp name }} venues.
