Currently the file type allowed by default is only txt. When adding a file field using the file selector I always have to change this? Am I doing something wrong or is this a usability no-no? The media browser allows a megaton of formats by default. Why not the file selector?

Devin Carlson CreditAttribution: Devin Carlson commentedThe media field should use the same list of default file types as the media browser.
I just tried using a fresh install of Media 2.x-dev and it worked as expected (maybe this was fixed at some point), so you might want to update to the latest development release of media and see if new fields receive more sensible defaults.

Dave ReidThat's the default allowed by core file fields (see 'instance settings' on http://api.drupal.org/api/drupal/modules--file--file.field.inc/function/...). I guess we could alter this behavior but I'm hesitant to do so. Re-opening for discussion.
