Hi everyone! I moved drupal 7 from one localhost to another localhost due to space. I was able to setup the new Drupal up and running without any issue, but as soon as I've import the .sql database file from the older drupal to the new one, I got the follow error:

Server error
The website encountered an error while retrieving http://localhost/drupal/. It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly.
Here are some suggestions:
Reload this webpage later.
HTTP Error 500 (Internal Server Error): An unexpected condition was encountered while the server was attempting to fulfill the request.

Does anyone have similar problem? Please share what need to be done to fix it? I deleted the .htaccess file but the error still there. Oh, I had drupal install on Ubuntu 11.10 and my path is: /var/www/drupal/

Thank you,

If you moved Drupal to a new folder check that .htaccess was copied along with the other files. Also check folder permissions and ownership.

hi, I've got that error too. But I didn't move anything. It just happen suddenly after I refresh the page.
Can you explain the reason why ?

No. If you did no update, no change to the server etc, who knows, maybe the server software is not functioning. You can check it is possible to show a static index.html by making such and temporarily renaming / removing Drupal's .htaccess. If that file does not work either, you know the problem is with your server and unrelated to Drupal.

Unfortunately, my XAMPP works perfectly well because i use XAMPP too for creating another website and it works well.

I tried to created static index.html and put in under the folder of unispices(my website created uses drupal) and the browser show the page of index.html. So, i assume that my server is fine.

any idea how to detect the problem is? because I don't know from where i should investigate the problem...

any idea will be helpful

Usual suspects are folder permissions being wrong, and the correct .htaccess not having got copied into document root. Open .htaccess and make sure it is the Drupal one. Being a hidden file often it is not copied with the rest of the code.

If the path has changed you should have followed documentation for migrating a site from one server to another. Clearing caches and running cron may fix the problem. However the stymptons for failing to follow documentation here are normally a live but broken site rather than a server error.

Wishing you all the very best,
and assuming that the ideal stack local installation package
is DAMP from Acquia.com (*1),
this is an 'absolute-beginner's tutorial page for installing DAMP (for Windows / MAC).

"Drupal 7 (or 6) - Install and Setup DAMP on your Windows PC or MAC - Video with outline"
http://drupal.org/node/1248034

The link above is to a drupal.org handbook page, and uses D7 as an example,
but I assume many, if not all, details apply to D6, and D8 as well.
