I am experiencing a problem getting ckEditor 3.6 to work on a test web site that I am developing. I am using Drupal 7, with the ckeditor-7.x-1 module.

Although I am able to install the Drupal module OK, unpacking the latest ckeditor package I got from the ckEditor website does not seem to work for me, as I get an error when I go to the configuration of the Module in Drupal:

"The CKEditor component is not installed correctly. Please go to the CKEditor homepage to download the latest version. After that you must extract the files to sites/all/modules/ckeditor/ckeditor or sites/all/libraries/ckeditor and make sure that the file sites/all/modules/ckeditor/ckeditor/ckeditor.js or sites/all/libraries/ckeditor/ckeditor.js exist. Refer to the README.txt for more information"

I have tried putting the files in the locations noted above, as well as the module directory where the core is. Again, the problem is not that the module is not being recognized by Drupal, but that apparently the ckeditor libraries are not being found, even though I have tried all of the locations indicated above. I have tried all of the trouble shooting suggestions I have found, to no avail. I am not using the Aquia Marina Theme, as I had read that this might be a problem on some installations. Any help would be appreciated as I am a new Drupal user.

when you extract the folder 'ckeditor' from the ckeditor website, you're meant to replace the 'ckeditor' folder within the ckeditor module folder.

You shouldn't need to move individual files anywhere. The ckeditor.js path is the correct example of how your files should have turned out.

There are 23 files or folders in sites/all/modules/ckeditor/ckeditor (including .htaccess).

One of them should be ckeditor.js

Hope this helps.

There seems to be problem with the new version of CKEditor 3.6 (sites/libraries/ckeditor). I encountered the same problem as TainoTechy. So, I deleted the ckeditor folder and installed an older version of ckeditor 3.5.2 and the older version functioned normally.

Pls update CKEditor module to last DEV version, there everything works fine...

CKEditor library u can upload to this directories:
1) sites/all/modules/ckeditor/ckeditor <- here put all files from directory of CKEditro library
2) sites/all/libraries/ckeditor <-here put all files from directory of CKEditro library

Also in Global profile check path to the CKEditor library...
I check this in my installation of Drupal and in a fresh install of Drupal, everything works fine...

Pls report here does it help u or not.
And pls stop using version 1.0, it has too much bugs...

Greetings

Perhaps I did not articulate my question correctly, but I did exactly what you indicated in your comment. I did not move individual files. There were two suggested installations one was as you suggested: sites/all/modules/ckeditor/ckeditor and the other was: sites/all/libraries/ckeditor. I tried both of these with the same result. Module avialbalbe, but error on configuration screen.

alalamo’s picture

Thanks will try this, and report back. I will also try TJM's suggestion to see how that goes.

alalamo’s picture

DC, worked fine with the dev version. I kept the 3.6 version of the ckeditor itself, just went back to the dev version as you suggested. Thanks for the quick help. Got the configuration screen just before I have to go into a long meeting with end users. Can't wait to get back to my PC to try this baby out.

I believe that this issue is a bug, as going from the recommended release 7.x-1.1 back to the development release 7.x-1-Dev resolves the problem of not being able to configure latest version of CKeditor 3.6.

DC, Updating to the latest dev version resulted in ckeditor becoming unfunctional again. Will go back tor prior dev version.

Do u have any errors in Firebug?
Do u use cache, pagespeed or sth like this?
If u use with last DEV version, CKEditor library in version 3.5.3 everything works fine?

Greetings

alalamo’s picture

DC, response to your questions:

1- Browser does not seem to be a factor. Test on Firebug, Chrome, and IE.
2 - I was using a cache module, but have since uninstalled it. However, even after uninstall had same problem
3 - Using the last dev version, works. I have not tried the CKEditor 3.5.3 library, have been using the 3.6. However, using the last Dev versions does work. Please note my previous comment was not articulated well. I went to the last recommended release version which gave me the problem, going back to the previous Dev version that I had installed corrected the problem with the configuration screen. I then had another problem (see below) which I was able to correct.

Yesterday when I went back to the dev version, I was not getting the toolbar. After reinstalling a couple of times, clearing cache in Drupal, checking and rechecking my input format settings, configurations, and permissions, and reading all of the trouble shooting recommendations, I tried disabling modules. That got me back up and running with CKEditor. I have attached a PDF of current Module page. My plan today is to enable the ones that I had disabled one at a time, and find the one that causes CKEditor to stop showing the toolbar. BTW, even when the toolbar does not show on a page, the page source shows that the CKEditor module does load.

Could you write the loading order which u have on source of your site for ckeditor.utils.js and ckeditor.js?
Do u use cache build-in Drupal or any external feature for that?
When u disable all caching systems everything works?

Could u give any access to your website?
If yes pls PM me this data and I will check that asap - then itt will be easier to check that and find where is problem.

I'm having the same problems, CKEditor 7.x-1.1 with CKEditor 3.6.

Tried with 7.x-1.x-dev and 3.6, does not work either nor does 3.5.3.

The only thing I have left to try is 7.x-1.1 with 3.5.3.

Hi. Something is not going right.

On D7 wysiwyg installation instructions it says:

Extract the archive and copy its contents into a new folder in the following location:

sites/all/libraries/ckeditor

So the actual library can be found at:
sites/all/libraries/ckeditor/ckeditor.js

In the ckeditor installation instructions it says sites/all/modules/ckeditor/ckeditor/ckeditor.js Also the automatic installation of D7 puts it in Modules.

There's a difference: libraries/modules... Who's right? It is not working correctly with Media right now. What to do?

mkesicki’s picture

Hi,
@harri00413 you probably write about WYSIWYG module not CKEditor module (this tracker is for the second module). You should install this module into sites/all/modules/ckeditor directory.

wwalc’s picture

There is something wrong with the module (error message at least is wrong). To reproduce, unpack CKEditor in sites/all/libraries and then rename sites/all/libraries into sites/all/_libraries.

The error message that will show up will in admin/config/content/ckeditor will look like this:

The CKEditor component is not installed correctly. Please go to the CKEditor homepage to download the latest version. After that you must extract the files to sites/all/libraries/ckeditor or sites/all/libraries/ckeditor and make sure that the file sites/all/libraries/ckeditor/ckeditor.js or sites/all/libraries/ckeditor/ckeditor.js exist. Refer to the README.txt for more information.

I suppose one of the alternatives should be "sites/all/modules/ckeditor/ckeditor"

dczepierga’s picture

tdryden’s picture

After you have gone through the installation bring up a page with an edit window, If you get an empty menu bar, gray stripe with only an expand arrow, the edit functions need to be enabled. For some reason all the functions are off on a new installation of CKEditor.

Go to the Wysiwyg configuration page
Select edit for the category your are interested in.
Select the buttons you want enabled.

DC, my apologies for not getting back to you on your #12 Post Dated May 19. The problem still persists for me. I have been working on several projects in my organization...

The web site is not accessible, as it is far behind a firewall as we are a government organization. However, I will provide the information you request on the loading order of the script files you identified first thing next week. It appears that this issue has not been resolved, however in the released version. I have been testing out different scenarios, and every once in a while I go to the released version to see if it works, and always wind up going back to the Dev version.

It appears that others are having some of the same problems, so I will attempt to provide as much debugging information as I can to see if this can be resolved. Unfortunately I have no experience with PHP.

DC, I am attaching the JS files for you to take a look at. Cannot give you access to site as we are behind a firewall. However, if you like I can send you a zip file (17 MB) or if you have an FTP location that I can up load to that would be better. I am not using any caching modules, have those turned off. Currently my ckEditor is working with the dev version as I previously reported. Going to the release version breaks everything. Please let me now if I can provide more info.

I, too cannot seem to get CKEditor to work on my Drupal 7.7 test site. Doesn't work with any theme I have tried. I am using the Drupal-specific CKEditor, version 7 (ckeditor-7.x-1.2.ZIP) I also tried ver 3.6 from the CKEditor page, but Drupal will have none of that as it reports an error, "no .info file found" when it unpacks the archive.

I tried first the latest release of CKEditor, and that generated the error screen I've attached in a PNG file. I then tried the latest Dev version, (ckeditor-7.x-1.x-dev.ZIP) same result. I am certain CKEditor is in the correct folder, but I cannot seem to get anywhere with it. I have tried manually FTP for the files, but the result is always the same - the error screen in attached PNG. It just won't allow me to configure at all.

I have a meeting with a potential client coming up. He really needs to be able to used a more visual editor than the stock Drupal text editor. I don't think I can sell him on Drupal without something like CKEditor installed on my test site.

Anyone figure out the real solution?

@eduuser, first of all do u read README file? There is everything written how to install CKEditor, as i see u probably not read this...

After upload CKEditor module to sites/all/modules/, download CKEditor library from http://ckeditor.com and unpack it to sites/all/modules/ckeditor/ckeditor/ direcotory, enable in module list in Drupal and does it all... everything should work without any problem...

Posted by dczepierga. Well the fact is that it does NOT work without a problem. I find it perplexing that dczepierga responds with his standard "everything should work without any problem" but not to posts that seek to find a solution to the problem. If there were another editor that had decent support, and had the functionality of being able to paste Word formatting into an editor, I would move to it in a heartbeat. Very disapointing support on this module.

totap’s picture

Hello.
I have to say that from almost 1 year on my few sites, drupal 6.x and 7.7 I'm useing CKEditor and I'm installing it in that way:
1. CKEditor module to modules folder
2. CKEditor core to libraries folder /sites/all/libraries/ckeditor/ckeditor.js

Sometimes I was useing it like (step2): /sites/all/modules/ckeditor/ckeditor.js but above solution is better for me i.e. for upgradeing module or core of CKEditor

PS. On drupal 7.7 I'm useing CKEditor core 3.5.2 - old but tested. With CKEditor 3.6.1 I had upload issues.

eduuser’s picture

Well, I am certainly well aware of the README file. But in terms of consistency and logic, the CKEditor installation I feel, is needlessly confusing and not at all clear. I eventually got it to work, but not without a lot of time wasted.

Here is what is involved in the installation:

- There are two DIFFERENT ckeditor archives (I used the ZIP files) - the one you download from the Drupal site and the separate one you download from the CKEditor site. All well and good, but certainly unlike many other Drupal modules' installs.

- After you unzip the Drupal archive (I used ckeditor-7.x-1.2.zip) into the sites/all/modules folder, you will have new folders of sites/all/modules/ckeditor/ckeditor. Unfortunately, you will also have this folder:

/sites/all/modules/ckeditor/ckeditor/ckeditor

The last ckeditor folder contains a file called COPY_HERE.txt - poorly named and incorrect, if you take it's position in the file tree seriously.

IGNORE this third iteration of the ckeditor folder.

- You must unzip the "standard" CKEditor archive that you download from the CKEditor website - NOT the Drupal site. This second file is called ckeditor_3.6.1.zip and its contents must be unpacked into the folder sites/all/modules/ckeditor/ckeditor

The basic problem is that there are 3 different folders with the SAME name: "ckeditor" and the one nested lowest is UNUSED.

The second problem is that ALL of the relevant files should be installable from the Drupal site. It's totally unintuitive to have to go a different website to download a file archive that's needed for Ckeditor to work with Drupal.

mkesicki’s picture

@eduuser
You should not have 3 ckeditor directories like "/sites/all/modules/ckeditor/ckeditor/ckeditor". Maybe you extract your zip with wrong option or in bad directory.
COPY_HERE.txt file normally is in ""/sites/all/modules/ckeditor/ckeditor" directory.
We don't add ckeditor library (second zip that you have download from http://ckeditor.com/download site) from some reasons:
- give users choice what version of ckeditor library they want to use (plenty of them use older version than the latest one)
- to avoid problems with Drupal modules license
Most people don't complain about installing CKEditor module. Off course we will think about make readme file better.

MarkRennes’s picture

I have built a completely new Drupal site in localhost, installed CKEditor module at version 7.x-1.2 and the CKEditor itself at version 3.6.1, have a directory (folder! I'm a Windows user...) structure similar to the screenshot, and get the message:

The CKEditor component is not installed correctly. Please go to the CKEditor homepage to download the latest version. Refer to the README.txt for more information.
Warning message
If you have CKEditor already installed please edit CKEditor Global Profile and update CKEditor path.

I did have CKEditor working fine on an earlier site, but that was Drupal 7.0 and not 7.7

I really don't know what the message concerning 'update CKEditor path' is saying. There is more than one path that can be configured, and I can't see that any needs changing.

I'm not terribly impressed by CKEditor as a text editor, but I am in total agreement that it is VASTLY better than the out-of-the-box text editing facilities in Drupal. Frankly I'm completely blocked without a functional CKEditor, and whether it's by my fault or whether there is in fact some underlying problem, I really, really would appreciate some help in getting this to work.

What diagnostics are desirable?

@MarkRennes, u try to install it in wrong directory... u should have CKEditor module files in: sites/all/modules/. So copy your ckeditor directory to this place and everything start to work :)

pixelsnap’s picture

Sorry DC, but look at Mark's screenshot again. He is right, and that is where the COPY_HERE.txt file was, and where it was RECOMMENDED by that file to copy the library. I too have tried EVERY variant on this particular issue, from the installation suggested by the CKEditor website (install in site ROOT), to the sites/all/libraries installation, and finally to the sites/all/modules/ckeditor/ckeditor directory, as firstly stated above, and it still gives error messages.
Using the Drupal Wysiwyg module, I was able to get TinyMCE to install and work more-or-less properly, EXCEPT that I can't get the interface to activate for anyone but the main admin user (User-1). It seems that if you attribute a user role to more than one input format (as to give a bit of a choice, for different situations), you run into trouble. For the time being, it seems that TinyMCE -- although a bit of a compromise against the prettier CKEditor -- is for the moment a better option, unless you want to pull your hair out and get yourself a wig.
I appreciate that everyone is working hard on this, but also get the impression that a few folks are more interested in tossing the hot potato away (or looking smarter than the rest, maybe), than really dealing with the issue. It's not in CKEd's best interest.

MarkRennes’s picture

Thanks for your support, @pixelsnap.

I was blocked by being unable to edit my content using CKEditor - but I do now have CKEditor working. As a workaround, I have used the wysiwyg module to front-end the CKEditor library, thus circumventing what I have to regard as the problematic CKEditor Drupal module. See the excellent post by Giuseppe di Cello at http://www.coagula.org/content/pages/drupal-7-editor-wysiwyg-pictures-up... which I have followed and which has worked well for me. This has had the side-advantage that I have been introduced to the Lightbox facility for displaying images. I have successfully installed the modules WYSIWYG, insert and Lightbox. I have amended the content type FilteredHTML and I can now use CKEditor.

pixelsnap’s picture

Hi Mark,

Great to read that. Lightbox is great, but just to deepen your bliss another notch, have a look at Colorbox. Better looking, compatible with everything I have thrown at it, and easy to install.

And contrary to that Drup CKE module, Colorbox runs great, right out of the... colorbox. ;-)

Addendum: Just went to see the link you kindly sent, and bingo! the whole thing was about colorbox already, and not the old lightbox. All is best that ends best, then. ;-)

mkesicki’s picture

@MarkRennes , @pixelsnap
if I see good at @MarkRennes screenshot the CKEditor module is uploaded into core drupal modules (pathTODrupal/modules) not to pathToDrupal/sites/all/modules. I think this http://drupal.org/node/1154602#comment-4895644 should work...

alalamo’s picture

Mark, your workaround is of great interest to me. What you are saying is that you were able to get CKEditor library working, without installing the CKEditor drupal module, if I understood your post correctly.

You used the Wysiwyg module as the front end for the CKEditor library. I am going to read through that URL that you posted. If this is in fact so, and you get the full functionality of the CKEditor library, without all of the hassle of the drupal CKEditor module, I don't understand why there would even be a need for a drupal module for CKEditor. Have you found any downsides to this approach? I am sitting on edge to here your findings, as this has been a serious source of irritation for me. The project I am working on needs the functionality provided by the CKEditor library, and I have not found any other editor library that meets my rquirements.

MarkRennes’s picture

Unfortunately, yes, there is significant functionality loss associated with this approach.

As the documentation for the CKEditor module states:
"
Some features of the CKEditor module:

ready to use plugins and buttons for

and

tags
support for external file browsers, like CKFinder, IMCE
CKEditor Link support for easily create links to Drupal internal paths
CKEditor SWF support for enhance functionality of Flash embedding plugin
Linkit support for internal linking to nodes, users, views and terms using an autocomplete field
each user may have it's own configuration (choose skin, toolbar, language, default state of CKEditor, etc.)
and much more!
"
For me, the most significant loss is the CKEditor Link support, without which it's messy to provide good within-site navigation. (I would comment that I wouldn't at the moment be able to use CKEditor Link; I can't get clean URLs working!)

I also note that the out-of-the-box integration with other Drupal features is better with the module than with the library alone. Thus you have to set up the editor to work with the various content types separately, which was not necessary when I used the CKEditor module.

But I was desperate to get CKEditor back and working. It's a good editor.

Incidentally, I lost all that significant functionality and a great deal more besides when I upgraded Drupal core from 7.0 to 7.7, and when I at the same time upgraded EasyPHP (and thus PHP, MySQL and Apache). I was suddenly in a situation where I couldn't even login. I raised that issue as http://drupal.org/node/1251202, which was never properly resolved.

I decided to start from scratch; but even that has been punctuated with problems - the CKEditor problem, but also locking myself out of my MySQL database, and being unable to get clean URLs working (raised as issue http://drupal.org/node/944080, unresolved as of now).

In all I have lost getting on for eight elapsed days work (and I work very long days!) painfully rebuilding my website, and I'm still not back where I started.

I'm still convinced that I made the right decision to learn and exploit Drupal. However I concur with the frequently expressed view that the Drupal learning curve is steep and somewhat brutal. I teach information systems to business students; to them, I would continue to recommend Wordpress as a gentler start. For myself, with grateful thanks to many members of the Drupal community for their ongoing helpfulness, I will press on with Drupal!

alalamo’s picture

Mark your feedback is greatly appreciated. I found my sense of elation quickly brought to a quick end when I read what you have been through. The specifics on the loss of functionality, especially the creation of internal links by end users, would at this point, be more than I could bear on my plate. At this point I have my CKEditor module working, but it is only with the Dev version as I had previously posted. When I venture out and try to install the release version, it breaks on me. I know the maintainers of this module claim it should work, but unfortunately only the dev version works for me at this point. Thanks my fellow Drupal bro, I will track your progress and wish the best :-)

mkesicki’s picture

Guys remember that CKEditor Link (http://drupal.org/project/ckeditor_link) and Linkit (http://drupal.org/project/linkit) are not created by developers of CKEditor module. We only add support to it ie. it is easy integrate these plugins with our module. The core of these module and all its features are done by developers of these modules.
@TainoTechy actual DEV version have plenty of bug fixes and we have to close one "big" error before we can create new release. It's a pity that release version doesn't work for you, but we will create new release as soon as possible. Please be patient.

MarkRennes’s picture

Problem solved, at least for me! To do it, I have reinstalled Drupal, PHP, MySQL and Apache... via xampp.

I had been using EasyPHP. I have now uninstalled that, installed xampp, and started with a fresh database. I have now succeeded in installing CKEditor and the CKEditor module, together with CKLink. I am a very happy bunny! (And a fortunate one, because I have kept details of all the content and admin changes I've made in my various earlier attempts to start building my websites.)

TainoTechy: have you been using EasyPHP? My guess is that a recent change in EasyPHP (or the components which it configures) lies at the heart of these difficulties.

alalamo’s picture

Michael, much thanks for the follow-up. Patience is not a problem at this end, what was somewhat perplexing was non-responses from DP. I emailed him to see if there was any other information that I could provide to possibly narrow the problem, but got no response.

I appreciate the work that your team is doing, and apologize if I have come across as non-appreciative for your efforts. The functionality offered by CKEditor module is certainly worth waiting for, just knowing that there will be an eventual release candidate that I can go into production with is enough to ease the tension at this end.

alalamo’s picture

Mark thanks for the follow up. No I am actually using an install of PHP 5.2.17. Hopefully the problem with the release version, which is older than the Dev version that I am using apparently, will be resolved, and we can all be happy campers. Good to hear that you are out of the forest though!

alalamo’s picture

I upgraded to the new release of CKeditor, 7.x-1.3, and it unfortunately did not work on my system. The toolbar fails to appear in text entry box. Rolled back to Dev version to restore functionality. I was not able to get toolbar back by rolling back the module files. Any ideas?

mkesicki’s picture

Version: 7.x-1.0 » 7.x-1.3

@TainoTechy have you use update.php (drupal script) after module upgrade ? Clear all drupal cache is also goodd idea after upgrade. Do you see any errors in Firebug console (Firefox add-on) ? Last release and DEV versions are almost the same or you use some older DEV version ?

mandirao’s picture

Perfect! Finally someone explained this properly (eduuser way back up at #27). Thank you.

alalamo’s picture

Michal, yes I did all that all that you suggested, and usually do it as a matter of practice. Unfortunately now that I attempted the upgrade I cannot get CKEditor working again, even if I uninstalled the new one, and re-installed the dev version. So frustrating...

alalamo’s picture

What is it that was explained that you are so clear on? Please enlighten me.

mkesicki’s picture

@TainoTechy do you have any javascript errors or missing request ?
Do you see any php errors, warnings ?
Does update.php script works on your system ?

Gemini Lights’s picture

@TainoTechy

If you have other custom js files running, try disabling all of them and see if CKEditor works. If it does, enable them one by one to see which is conflicting.

I'm using 7.x-1.3 and it works fine. And also try disabling or enabling Overlay in core Drupal to see if that changes anything too.

mkesicki’s picture

@TainoTechy if you have any JavaScript an/or CSS enabled, please turn it off and check if this helps.
Please also check if all request are correct or maybe there are some missing files.

cheshire137’s picture

Nope, doesn't work. I installed CKEditor 3.6.3 for Drupal in sites/all/libraries/ckeditor, as per Wysiwyg's instructions. The problem is that the ckeditor.js is not at sites/all/libraries/ckeditor/ckeditor.js like Wysiwyg expects, but rather at sites/all/libraries/ckeditor/ckeditor/ckeditor.js, which is where the 3.6.3 version of CKEditor puts it. Should I rearrange CKEditor's directory structure to suit the Wysiwyg module? At this point I'm saying "screw it" to CKEditor, I'll try TinyMCE or something.

I had the same problem with the library but solved it by using the inner ckeditor folder only. When you download ckeditor library from their site, it contains ckeditor -> ckeditor. I used the nested ckeditor only. You don't need all files just the inner ckeditor one, the one that contains _source folder. My setup is site/all/libraries/ckeditor. I'm a bit tired so not sure I'm making sense. See my image below, the highlighted folder is what you need.

How can I determine whát is the -CKEditor module-, and whát the -CKEditor core-..??

mkesicki’s picture

@misscosmic,
CKEditor drupal module from http://drupal.org/project/ckeditor or http://ckeditor.com/ckeditor-for-drupal
(here is also CKEditor core/library included), these files create module for drupal.
CKEditor core/library from http://ckeditor.com/download create CKEditor standalone application.
CKEditor core/library files are located in 'ckeditor' subdirectory in archive from http://ckeditor.com/ckeditor-for-drupal

In fact, this is a major bug in the documentation. It is written on the module page:

the module ckeditor that is available here for download is a wrapper for the editor downloaded from the ckeditor.com site. After the two archives are downloaded and unpacked, you end up with two folders having the same name, a 'module' and a 'program'. The module contains an folder called ckeditor that contains a text file that instructs you install the *contents* of the ckeditor folder that came from ckeditor.com into this almost empty ckeditor folder.

but the file to download for CKeditor.com contains both the module and the program. The correct installation instructions are yet on another website.
Moreover, it is extremely confusing to give the same name to a folder and its subfolder. The module's folder could be named "ckeditor_module" for instance. I hope such a change will take place for the next major version.

@Fiable.biz,

So that is even more confusing that what I thought, and is still a documentation mistake, or rather 2:
when an innocent Drupal user goes to the page linked in the "installation" paragraphe of page http://drupal.org/project/ckeditor, i.e. page http://ckeditor.com/download, he will of course download a file from the "CKEditor for Drupal" section and, confident in the "Proud to be open source", in most cases he will not even open the license file, even if, like me, this kind of things matters to him.
1) Drupal documentation should rather give this link: http://download.cksource.com/CKEditor/CKEditor/CKEditor 3.6.5/ckeditor_3.6.5.zip or explain what link to click;
2) It is inacceptable from the part of CKEditor to propose a download page like that, which doesn't mention, before downloading, which kind of license each package is binding to, but displays the "Proud to be opensource" logo. This documentation fault doesn't directly depends on Drupal, but Drupal shouldn't link to such deceptive pages without strong warning.

To summarize it:

Follow the COPY_HERE.txt in sites/all/modules/ckeditor/ckeditor

Go to http://ckeditor.com and download the latest version. Then
uncompress the contents of the "ckeditor" directory of the downloaded file to
this folder (modules/ckeditor/ckeditor).

I have being trying to install ckeditor for many hours. I have read through the above threads and others, plus you tube videos all to no avail. Each time I see that the module is installed, but get the following when I go to configure it get

a green tick checking .for sites/all/modules/ckeditor-7.1.x-dev./tar/ckeditor-7.1.x-dev/ckeditor/ckeditor/config.js or
sites/all/libraries/ckeditor/ckeditor.js.

The CKEditor component is not installed correctly. Please go to the CKEditor homepage to download the latest version. Refer to the README.txt for more information.

Warning message
If you have CKEditor already installed please edit CKEditor Global Profile and update CKEditor path

I have tried all possible perms of 7.x1.12 and 7.x-1.x dev.1 with cKeditor 3.6.6 3.6.4 and the new 4

given the number on installs/deinstalls I regularly clear the cache.

sites/all/modules/ckeditor/ckeditor where i paste the ckeditor PROGRAM into the almost blank ckeditor MODULE folder of the ckeditor module, yes I can see the copy hear file

Also Tried several times to put the ckeditor in sites/all/libraries, obviously to no avail

Just to prove I could install another module, I have sucessfully installed imce 7.x.-1.6. first time, such joy.

I am new to drupal and having a torrid time, however on the plus side the fact that I have spent many, many hours accelerating my learning curve.

I have also tried putting the unpacked program inside the unpacked module before uploading to the site folder, as opposed to install module button on Acquia Dev Control Panel

I apreciate it may be difficult for anyone to assist me in that I have read all the postings above and many other threads,

Is there anything I have not tried, I do not understand how to edit Global Profile, could this be the problem ?

So sorry to witter on but the very first post I read on hear was a guy saying how you should try and try again before posting, well I gave it my best shot and then some,

Any help would be most grateful

@Vulcan ,
please follow installation process described at http://docs.cksource.com/CKEditor_for_Drupal/Open_Source/Drupal_7. Everything should be clear there.

The CKEditor component is not installed correctly. Please go to the CKEditor homepage to download the latest version. Refer to the README.txt for more information.

This usually means that you didn't upload CKEditor library into correct place on your server.
Editing global profile of CKEditor module is in url like YourDrupaplDomain/admin/config/content/ckeditor/editg

Thank you for your response. Previous to your comment I had many times viewed your suggested reading, I have since read again and again.
Clearly I do not have the aptitude to instal this particular module and am doing something fundamentally stupid. As a last resort I uninstalled Acquia Dev Desktop and drupal 7. Have reinstalled a new instance of Acquia and Drupal 7.18. then downloaded and unpacked the ck editor Module (wrapper) and then placed the latest ckeditor 4.0.1 from ckeditor.com in the empty ckeditor that contains the copy here txt file.. exactly the same warning message as previous. I also tried a couple of older versions, again ,3.6.6. and 3.6.5 because although all the tutorials and threads state use the latest version I read 25 pages worth of threads of ckeditor forum and on about page three it says "There's no Drupal module for CKEditor 4 yet. We're working on it! " this is a reply to a post dated the 18th dec 2012.

Clearly I do not have the aptitude to instal this particular module and am doing something fundamentally stupid

I am at a loss, maybe I should try another module that will give me similar functions.

The main reason for this post is as stated at the beginning, thank you for taking the time to respond to my enquiry

Finally, happy days, mission complete.

Just in case somebody with the same lowly I.Q. has a similar problem I offer the following explaination as to how I Finally got ckeditor to load, here is what happened.

Unfortunately I did 2 things different at install attempt number heaven knows (30 odd times I guess)

1. Read a blog stating that core modules shipped in drupal 7 comes with the php filter module, but by default it is not enabled. It further states that php filter module needs to be enabled, so thats what I did.

2. Installed the ZIPPED version of ckeditor module 7.1.12 via the insert module button on modules page as opposed to unpacking and placing the ckeditor module in the sites/all/modules folder. Then installed the ckeditor programme ( used 3.6.5 for reasons explained in my last post)from ckeditor.com in the almost empty ckfolder, which when you open, displays the text file "copy here".

So very happy

As a footnote, perhaps not relevant at all, previously whenever I have opened the ckeditor module to locate placing the ckeditor programme this is what I always saw:

ckeditor ..................... this is where I found and installed the ckprogram,
images
includes
plugins
changelog
etc
etc
TROUBLESHOOTING
UPGRADE

this always failed

This time though the running order was reversed, first time I saw this when opening the sites/all/modules/ckeditor folder

UPGRADE
TROUBLESHOOTING
bla
bla
bla
includes
images
ckeditor ..................... installed ckeditor programme inside here

why is this, what may I humbly ask was I doing wrong ?

Thank you for your patience

@Vulcan,
please check if you see sites/all/modules/ckeditor/ckeditor/ckeditor.js file after upload CKEditor library into sites/all/modules/ckeditor/ckeditor directory. Can you check installation with core drupal theme . Please also check this site : http://docs.cksource.com/CKEditor_for_Drupal/Open_Source/Drupal_7/Troubleshooting#The_CKEditor_module_is_not_installed_correctly.

Hi,
My 2 cents :
I had the problem of CKeditor (7.1.12/3.6.6) and overlay no longer working (while it had before).
I found that in admin/performances unselecting agregate css and js made my day ! I now have these two modules perfectly running. HTH

wwalc’s picture

@Misange Instead of turning off globally the JavaScript aggregation, you may try disabling aggregation of ckeditor.js in the Global Profile (admin/config/content/ckeditor/editg) - "Aggregate ckeditor.js" set to "Disabled".
Clear Drupal cache after saving the profile.

vrivera82’s picture

Works!! with 7.x-1.12 and 3.6.5

ikeigenwijs’s picture

I have the same problem but,

not the same solution.
global setting of ckeditor was already disabled
on add page the ckeditor is not loaded.

but when you use the filter dropdown ckedor apears with no problem or errors.

Also on the editor apearence secction of configuration profile of ckeditor its not loaded
But when you togle color its loaded

Tux Love’s picture

Same problem. ckeditor_4.1.2_standard.zip is installed at both sites/all/modules/ckeditor/ckeditor and sites/all/libraries/ckeditor. It's working fine, but admin/config/content/wysiwyg reports "The version of CKEditor could not be detected." (Drupal version 7.22)

cburyta’s picture

I've noticed that the ckeditor.js itself over the course of time changes the version string. In the function wysiwyg_ckeditor_version function, I fixed the "The version of CKEditor could not be detected" error by tweaking the preg_match line that looks for the version.

For example, near the top of the ckeditor.js line, I see...

version:"4.1.2",revision:"d6f1e0e"

So I tweak the preg_match line to be...

if (preg_match('@version:\"(?:CKEditor )?([\d\.]+)(?:.+revision:\"([^\"]+))?@', $line, $version)) {

hisham.malik’s picture

Thanks cburyta. The tweak in regular expression is what fixed the code for me.

CK Editor version 4.x and up were not recognized. Downloaded version 3.6.6.1. Works for me.

Hi I don't know if anyone has mentioned this [reviously, but I managed to get it to work by altering the name of the CKEditor file from ckeditor 5.x.x.x to just ckeditor.

I also installed the development version of WYSIWYG.

Hope that this helps someone.

Andy.
