Hello there,

I'm working on putting together the pieces for a client who is interested in a responsive web site. He wants it to look properly on regular computers, iPhones, iPods, and iPads. Everything else is not important to him. A good example of what he wants is: http://nickonken.com/ even though this site was built with Flash.

We have seen the Omega frame work (http://omega.developmentgeeks.com/) and we know this works for responsive web design but we are unsure it will cover the entire screen as Nick Onken's website does.

Could you help me figure this out? Can this be done with Drupal or is it a CSS + HTML coding thing only?

Responsive website design is purely css + html, it really has nothing to do with the platform the site is built on.

Yes, let's call things by its name. I actually need a website that:

1. Is responsive.
2. It is fluid or expands to the whole screen like http://nickonken.com/

Now, I found that the Omega Template (http://drupal.org/project/omega) does the responsive part already. I just need to know if I can do the "fluid" part with Drupal.

Yes, you can do responsive design (or a fluid full width design) on -any- CMS. Because responsive or full width design comes down to the theme (and not the CMS).

Responsive / Full Width design is indeed the DESIGN. It has nothing to do with the CMS you've chosen, but instead how the theme's HTML & CSS is written.

http://drupal.org/project/adaptivetheme is a very sound framework for responsive design in Drupal, you can do 100% width no problem (trivial theme setting - point and click sort of thing to setup the responsive layouts). The best way is just to download these themes and play around with them - see which one is good fit for you, your way of working etc.

Ya you can design a responsive website design which involves altering completely with CSS codes which makes cross-browser compatibility more easier. Drupal 7 will be the better choice for responsive web designing..
