(content being the path to the page the captcha is on).
Changing the external argument in the url function from TRUE to FALSE returns an absolute path, which displays the .swf player.

sunSorry for the late reply.
It looks like we fixed this in 2.x already. At least I'm not able to reproduce the bug with 2.x and a Drupal site that is installed in a subdirectory.
The 1.x series did not see any updates or improvements in the past ~2 years and is effectively discontinued by now. We'll soon mark it as unsupported to urge people to update to 2.x.
