Whoops. The defgroup should have been using Syntax #2 at:
http://drupal.org/coding-standards/docs#defgroup

The "End of defgroup callbacks" after the @} needs to be removed from both 7.x and 8.x. Should be a good Novice project. Oh I see, you already tagged it Novice. Thanks for the report!
