Incompatibility with GTraslate module on iPad

The GTranslate module (google translation) module generates an overlay from which the user chooses their language

I am finding that when the GTranslate language selection links overlay a Flexslider, that the links do not function.

Where the overlay partially covers a flexslider those links outside the area of the slider work, but those that are within it, do not.

I have tried a number of different z-index things but I do not think this is a z-index issue.

There are a couple of other iPad related item in the issue queue for Flexslider, but this one does not appear to have any commonality with them.
