It would be great if this module could integrate short URLs as generated by the Shorten URLs module (http://drupal.org/project/shorten). This would be especially useful in terms of twitter sharing.

I like this idea too. Especially since my websites URL is HUGE (all the good ones were already taken). I think people go to tweet and its like SMASHED together = ugly and doesn’t allow much room for my reader to post what they want to say either. Short URLs could allow me to track and clean up my tweets.
