view node permissions - No effect

I am little lost with this module and its functions.
If I turn off view content permission from admin/user/permissions . Users can not see any node content.
They can see node content trough views as declared in another issues.
But content access setting do nothing. No effect at all. If I give permission to view node content the user can not see it?

Module seems to work fine with edit option.
When turning edit any content for node type off from admin/user/permissions and giving the right to do it from module user can edit all nodes for that node type.
