Fielfield uploads file but does not store in database or remember in node

Hi,

I am using Filefield 5.x - 2.5, Mimedetect 5.x - 1.3.
When i create a node type and place a new Fielfield in the node type and then create content for that node type it will not store the page correctly when a file has been uploaded.
It seems to upload the file to the directory specified, but just hangs on a white screen or says the page is unavailable and when i go to check the new node in the admin/content it has been created but it has no reference of the uploaded file, even though it has been uploaded.
This has caused a major issue for me as i need this functionality to finish a critical page i am working on for my employer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
