I'm trying to decide between the two and looking at http://drupal.org/node/613032#comment-2185034

makes me thing Genesis is better for my purposes. However, I'd like to do it in HTML5 if possible.

Genesis is better for your purposes, I don't even know your purposes but unless you are building commerical themes then Genesis is your ticket.

Now, about HTML5, yes I am working on HTML5, it will be the next version (aka 7.x-2.x), but I am so cagey about cutting anything new just before GIT arrives.

GIT arrives in about 8 days, so I could prepare code and when we switch do a commit and cut new release, it will be pretty easy to get HTML5 into Genesis since I just did it with several other themes I feel like an old hand already :)

Hey Jeff, thanks for your quick response. We put up a rough version using Genesis here http://openconcept.ca

We'll be wanting to try out the HTML5 version, but not sure if we'll be doing that before or after we put up the new design. I'm definitely looking forward to Thursday though when Git gets implemented. What a process!

Thanks for putting these out there and pushing for HTML5 in Drupal. I know that having a few HTML5 sites in Drupal 7 will make it much easier to implement as part of core in Drupal 8. A few working examples can go a long ways!

I pushed the HTML5 version ahead a bit, so the 7.x-2.x branch is HMTL5 (down loadable now), I think HTML5 is really running hot in Drupal right now, I'm getting tonnes of feedback about Adaptivetheme and it has over 1400 users already (just the D7 HTML5 version).

That's great. We look forward to implementing it and letting you know when it's up.

And yes, definitely agreed on D7. The HTML5 support has been a big draw for us and others.
