The description field added by Better Exposed Filters is not possible to translate. I don't know how translations is handled in views and if it's possible to hook into that.

You're right. And I can fix this in BEF, though I'm about half way through a change to how descriptions work (allowing them for all filters as opposed to just ones that can be checkbox/radio buttoned) so I'll roll the change into that fix.

Sorry for taking so long to get back to this issue -- I'm going through the queue and finding quite a few items I let slip through the cracks!

Anyhow, the API page for the t() function says

However tempting it is, custom data from user input or other non-code sources should not be passed through t().

and then outlines several reasons why, the most relevant being that the translated strings are not refreshed when the user-generated content is changed so the translation will be out of date.

Sorry, have to close this won't fix...
