Datepicker default value

When adding a datepicker as a views filter the default value seems to be the current month from what ever the lowest year included is. For instance if you included -3:+3 years and it was february then it would default to february 2008. I know the datepicker will default to the field value if I give it a default value, but I don't want the page to filter by default. Is there any way to give the calendar itself a default value without giving the filter itself a default value?
