Just wondering what was done to style the middle block on the front page to display the blog with views? Was node used as a style, or field and then rewrite the output? Just wondering there is hard coded elements in there that I can leverage.

Content and CSS classes of the middle block of front page is just a prototype implementation.

Put your view block in this region and try to reproduce the desired result using the prototype implementation as your guide.
