Hi
I'd like to know when somebody click on "play".
It would be cool to know.
Moreover, it is requested by the LAW.
Each time we allow playing a song online, we have to pay fees (BMI, ASCAP, SACEM...)
Even if it's our own music.
It's a real life problem, so I really have to come into line (and I guess there is a zillion of website who should do as well :-)
What could we do within Drupal 6 ?
Just for increasing a counter.
Any idea, advice is really needed.

I don't have anything to do with this module, but please, show what source you're talking about when you say:

Do you mean you purchased a CD, or do you mean you made the music yourself? Did you publish it, or did one of the publishing houses? That will help in determining what is "your" music vs someone else's, as far as the way the laws are written to which you're referencing. If it's something of your own, not related to a publishing house at all, then it's yours, and you owe no one - not by any law that I'm aware of, at least.

I'm a composer-producer, I'm Sacem member. I'm building a website for selling my music, and that of other people.
You're right if music is your, and you're nor member of a Performing Right Organisation (BMI, SACEM...) you can do what you want.
That mean also that if someone buy your track and put it on radio or tv, you will never get a cent from it.
All the other ways of protection (copyright, common licence ans so on) cannot collect any fee from broadcast.
So, do you know somebody who made a CD and is not PRO member ? I dont.
Secundly, if you're such a member, when a music is simply played on the web, the website has to pay fees to PROs, that should give it back to you. Legally. Even if it's your OWN music on your OWN website. You will get back about 95% of what you pay, in this case.
So, when putting online for listening a mp3 from a PRO member, a website must pay fees. And of course as well when it sells a mp3.
So we, at least me, MUST count the number of playings, and tell it, each quarter, to our PRO, and pay fees proportionnally to this number.
It's the french law. And I think this is valuable in US and UK.

very valid points, but out of scope of this project. Link tracking may be the proper solution
