I am creating a thumbnail hover slideshow with views slideshow. What I am having trouble with is having the default image of the slideshow (so when they first visit the page the main image will be the cover instead of the first image in the gallery) be the cover image of the gallery instead of the first image of the gallery. I tried giving it the cover image relationship but that made the image not show up. Any help would be appreciated.

Mhm, right now I don't see an easy way to do that, as Views slideshow does not know anything about cover images as far as I know.

Sorry, this is a won't fix in my book. A cover image is just a "flagged" normal image in the gallery. Views slideshow doesn't know about it, and even if it would, i don't think it offers a feature to use it as the first image, overriding the sort order.
