The http://drupal.org/getting-started/before/terminology node is lacking the definition of a page. Which is asked in the question found at http://drupal.stackexchange.com/questions/2652/panels-page-or-panels-nod...
I think this is important to add, and wish I could use this reference to answer the question.

MGParisi CreditAttribution: MGParisi commentedI think this is a start... but maybe people can add more too it.
Basic Suggestion 1 - A page is a container of multiple nodes (or content types) and block regions. A page is defined in the template found in the themes page.tpl.php

arianek CreditAttribution: arianek commentedThere's a good definition on the Content Types page http://drupal.org/node/21947 if you want to reuse that.

MGParisi CreditAttribution: MGParisi commentedI think a "Page", and a "Basic Page" are two different things. I will get advice on this.

arianek CreditAttribution: arianek commentedNope - "Page" is D6 terminology and "Basic Page" is D7 - for all intents and purposes they're the same content type thought.

IAmThatStrange CreditAttribution: IAmThatStrange commentedOh please define it. This to me (a true newb) is very confusing.
Okay if a page = content and content = node, then panel page and panel node are identical.
yes?

LarsKramer CreditAttribution: LarsKramer commentedI also think we are talking about two different things:
1. A specific content type (in D6 called "Page", and in D7 called "Basic page").
2. The whole web page as defined in page.tpl.php. This prints out everything you see including header, breadcrumb, navigation, regions, blocks etc. Usually, a node of type "Basic page" will then be included in the $page['content'] variable.
I don't have experience with Panels, so I am not sure if definition 2 also applies to Panels.

jhodgdonRandomly looking at some Docs issues today and found this one... I just took care of it, I think. There are two things, the "page" content type and the word "page" that is in common use in web technology. I think that the "page" entry on the Glossary page now includes both. Feel free to open this up again if you disagree. To review it:

MGParisi CreditAttribution: MGParisi commentedI agree, the term is standard in Drupal Documents. Views uses Page, Panel, Panes... Many other modules refer to a specific "Page". A Page can be Node/User/Comment/View/module output!
